Kevin,
disclosure, i work for Dell. Thanks for posting this review, I wanted to point out a couple of things:
1) It is clear in the review that Dell's chassis management capabilities are best in class. Amazing that they gave Dell/HP/IBM the same score in Mgmt based on the writeup.
2) Reviewer says Dell doesnt have a "virtualized 10Gb" solution. We dont have a Flex10 type of product, but you dont need that when you are doing Virtualization (they hypervisor takes care of that for you - including bandwidth reservation if you want it). Dell was the ONLY one in the review to run all LAN (VMs, VMotion, management) AND iSCSI SAN traffic over the same 10Gb pipe. We did it using standard VMWare features, so our solution was much less expensive, easier to setup (the reviewer commented that HP/IBM guys didnt know how their "virtualized 10Gb" solutions worked), and we performed similarly. Flex10 & IBM's Emulex NIC carving is N/A for virtualization.
3) Interesting that Dell got the same score on "value" as HP, but were ~$10K less expensive (chassis & 4 blades). If you extend that out to a full chassis it ends up being pretty significant.
4) to your comment on IBM's "redundant" IO & power connectors. First, there is no real added redundancy there, they still connect into a single midplane (and IBM has active components all over their midplane). 2nd, IBM's density is constrained because of many other factors beyond the 2 connectors, power is likely a big one. Dell & HP provide redundant IO controllers on the blade & IO modules in the back even on Half Height blades.
M910 releases tomorrow
