Vblocks Will Continue to Use UCS
As the new year kicks off, Dell EMC leadership has made it clear that the partnership with Cisco is as strong as always. New Study Shows Dell Blades Outperform Cisco UCS
A newly published study by Principled Technologies reports in tests that the Dell PowerEdge M1000e blade environment delivered up to 91.7% greater throughput while running a virtualized OLTP database workload compared to a similarly priced Cisco UCS 5108 blade environment. In addition they found that the Dell environment delivered consistent scaling as blade servers were added versus the performance degradation observed in the Cisco environment.

A Look at the Cisco UCS M-Series
On September 4th, Cisco released a new line of modular servers under the UCS family known at the M-Series. Interesting enough, though, Cisco’s not calling the new servers “blade servers” but instead they are taking a play out of HP’s Moonshot playbook and calling them “cartridges.” The M-Series won’t be available until Q4 of this year, but in this blog post, I’ll highlight the information Cisco has provided. Cisco Launches UCS B200 M3

Cisco To Launch Next Generation UCS Blade Servers on March 6, 2012
According to a recent event posting by Cisco, the 3rd generation of Cisco UCS blade servers will be revealed on March 6, 2012. The server launch event advertises that Cisco will announce the B200 M3 blade server, and C220 M3, and C240 M3 rack servers on March 6th, 2012. These soon-to-be-announced servers are 2 socket servers built on Intel’s upcoming E5-2600 Romley processors and Patsburg chipsets.
